Dental Anxiety in Charlottesville, VA
It can be difficult to schedule your next dental appointment after a bad experience in the dental chair. However, it’s extremely important to your dental health that you see a professional dentist at least once every six months. Unlike some minor health concerns, dental concerns will not go away on their own. In fact, many people do not even realize they have dental concerns because they do experience any pain or discomfort until issues develop past the point of being able to be treated conservatively. This is why we want to ensure that our patients come to see us regularly so that we can catch minor dental concerns before they require more invasive and expensive procedures.
Patients who experience dental anxiety often associate going to the dentist with loud noises, needles, drills, and pain or discomfort. At Harrison Dental Associates, we believe an informed patient is a healthier and more relaxed patient. That is why we take our time to explain our processes to our patients before performing a procedure. We are happy to take breaks if you become overwhelmed at any point during your appointment. Additionally, we invite patients to bring a friend or listen to music during appointments if it will help keep them calm and comfortable.
Sedation Denitstry for Dental Anxiety
For our most anxious patients, we are proud to offer sedation dentistry options like laughing gas. Laughing gas is a light sedative that is inhaled continuously through a mask during your appointment. Laughing gas is known for keeping patients calm and comfortable but still awake and aware during procedures. Most people will remember very little from the appointment. It has been used for a long time in the dental field and is completely safe. The effects are immediate and will stop when the mask is removed. This means you can drive yourself to and from your dental appointments.
Sedation dentistry will allow your dentist to get the work completed that is necessary for optimal oral health. Patients who suffer from anxiety can difficult to treat and may require multiple appointments to complete all the necessary dental work. Utilizing sedation methods means your dentist can get more dental work done in a single office visit. If you are interested in pursuing sedation dentistry options, please let our team know and we would happy to provide these for you.
