Dentures & Partials in Charlottesville, VA

Dr. Matthew Harrison is your trusted restorative dentist in Charlottesville, VA. We are happy to provide you with custom-made dentures and partials. At Harrison Dental Associates, we understand the importance of restoring your smile and look forward to helping you regain functionality.

Missing a full arch of teeth can have drastic effects on a person’s ability to chew and speak, and can have damaging effects on their self-confidence. Our compassionate team custom-makes your dentures and partials to ensure a snug and comfortable fit so that you can enjoy having a fully functional smile again.

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures use suction and adhesive to adhere to your gums. They’re removable, and need to be removed every night so that they can be cleaned properly. Advancements in technology make today’s dentures much more comfortable than they were in the past. They’re less bulky and look and feel more natural in your mouth. However, they do still come with some downsides.

Removable dentures only give you about 30% of your bite function back. Certain foods have to be avoided because your dentures can’t handle them. You’ll need to find the best adhesive for your unique needs to make sure that the dentures don’t slip or fall out.

Traditional dentures don’t take care of further bone loss, either. Your jawbone continues to deteriorate, causing you to need your dentures relined or replaced throughout your life.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are also known as permanent dentures. Dental implant posts are placed in your jawbone, and the denture attaches to these posts. You don’t have to worry about taking your dentures out to clean them — they stay in constantly. You brush your dentures like you would normal teeth.

Permanent dentures come with a host of benefits. Implants are the only tooth replacement option that gives you back 100% of your bite function. They also stop the process of bone deterioration. You won’t run into issues with the fit of your dentures because the implants keep your bone structure stable. When eligible, we recommend implant-supported dentures as the top choice for our patients.

How Should I Care For My Dentures?

After you receive your dentures, Dr. Harrison will instruct you on how to properly care for them. You should avoid using traditional toothpaste on your dentures and instead use denture cleaner. Clean and rinse your dentures as often as you would brush your natural teeth. Keep your dentures in denture solutions while not in use to ensure they keep their shape.

How Can I Ensure My Dentures Won’t Slip Around While In Use?

Our custom-made dentures and partials are designed specifically for you to prevent slippage as much as possible. However, we also offer implant-secured dentures, which utilize dental implants to anchor your dentures in place while in use. Patients enjoy implant-secured dentures because they don’t have to worry about their dentures moving around while chewing or speaking.

Should I Wear My Dentures At Night?

We recommend taking your dentures out at night before you go to bed. This allows your soft tissues and jawbone to rest from the pressure that the dentures apply to them throughout the day,
